Sterling Heights, MI - Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has announced that a dozen branch offices in Metro Detroit are sharing the wonders of art through a unique partnership with the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA).
Benson and DIA director Salvador Salort-Pons co-hosted a news conference today at the Sterling Heights branch to unveil the program.
“These reproductions are here thanks to a first-of-its-kind new partnership with the great team at the Detroit Institute of Arts,” Benson said. “It’s part of the DIA’s much-loved Inside|Out program, where reproductions of masterpieces from the museum’s collection go on display in places where people live, work and play. And because most people need to visit a Secretary of State Office at some point, that makes it a good place for the Inside|Out program.”
Reproductions featured on the walls of the Sterling Heights branch are Henri Matisse’s “The Window” and Carolus-Duran’s “Merrymakers.” In all, 25 works are displayed in branch offices.
“The Inside|Out program allows us a unique way to engage local residents by bringing art from the DIA into the communities in which they live,” said Salort-Pons. “With these new installations at 12 Secretary of State office locations throughout Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, we are able to reach visitors to the region, showing them the incredible culture and art that is available right here in Detroit. I want to thank the Secretary of State Benson for her partnership on this exciting installation.”
Inside|Out is a popular component of the DIA’s community engagement efforts. Over the past 10 years, the museum has partnered with more than 100 communities and displayed reproductions in outdoor community venues. The program is moving indoors with this partnership.
