Mt. Clemens, MI - Macomb County has announced that it has received $4.1 million from the State of Michigan and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation through the Michigan Small Business Survival Grant Program to assist businesses that have experienced significant financial hardship due to the COVID-19 emergency orders issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in November and December 2020.
The application period for grant funding will run from 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19 through Noon on Friday, January 22.
“Businesses across our community continue to face unimaginable challenges," said County Executive Mark A. Hackel. “Macomb County remains committed to deploying resources and services that can help them navigate this uncertainty. Our goal with this new grant is to target industries that have been hit the hardest by shutdowns and orders. We will do what it takes to get these businesses back on their feet.”
Macomb County will give priority to brick and mortar businesses in the following industries: Restaurants, bars, banquet facilities, gyms, entertainment venues and recreational facilities. While the state is allowing applications for funding up to $15,000 or $20,000, the county will determine the final amounts to distribute based on the number of applicants and demonstrated need.
“Grant funding can be used for payroll, rent, mortgage payments, utilities and other expenses,” said Vicky Rowinski, director of Macomb County Planning and Economic Development. “We understand how challenging this period has been and our priority is to help businesses recover in every way possible.”

- An eligible business is a for-profit business or nonprofit business.
- The business had 1-100 employees (including full-time, part-time and owner-employees) on a worldwide basis on November 17, 2020.
- The business is in an industry that can demonstrate being affected by the emergency orders.
- The business needs working capital to support payroll expenses, rent, mortgage payments, utility expenses or other similar expenses.
- The business demonstrates an income loss as a result of the emergency orders as determined by the EDO in which an eligible business is located.
- The business is not a live music and entertainment venue that is eligible for funds under PA 257 of 2020 Section 401.
All applications received during the application period will be reviewed and considered; grants are not being awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
