Open House For Caregivers Of Dementia Patients In Macomb Co

Mt. Clemens, MI - The Macomb County Office of Senior Services will host a free open house for caregivers at its Goldenberry Adult Day Center on Thursday, June 1 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Goldenberry is a state-of-the-art day program in Macomb County for individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia-related conditions. The facility offers respite care for caregivers who are in need of assistance caring for their loved ones.

“Our team at the Office of Senior Services understands how challenging it can be as a caregiver,” said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. “So we’re here to provide support and a sense of relief. Goldenberry is an outstanding, state-of-the-art facility, and its staff are compassionate, highly skilled individuals. You can trust your loved one is well cared for here.”

“We are opening our doors to show people what we can provide,” said Sheila Coté, director, Macomb County Office of Senior Services. “Our center offers incredible services and we want to demonstrate that with families who need to take care of individuals with complicated needs.

Goldenberry includes meals/snacks, activities, exercise, transportation, health monitoring, medication management, personal care, socialization, caregiver support and more. Staffing includes certified nursing assistants, registered nurse accessibility and a social worker with a 1:3 ratio of 1 staff to 3 participants. Staff provide continuous supervision and practice mandated safety protocols. Flexible schedules are available.

“It’s important to note that funding assistance for our program is available,” said Coté. “Support can be provided through the Veterans Administration, the Area Agency on Aging 1-B and we also offer a private pay rate, which is less than the cost of home health care. Our team will be able to discuss all this at the open house.”

Goldenberry leadership will also be able to discuss their credential as a Montessori Inspired Lifestyle Program. Montessori Inspired Lifestyle® (MIL) is a person-centered approach to living that involves understanding a person’s capabilities and interests and developing activities and plans of care that match the individual with their environment. This approach leads to greater independence and maintenance of remaining abilities among people with cognitive and physical disabilities. It also emphasizes the key values of respect, dignity and equality.

Goldenberry received this accreditation in February 2022. The certification made it the first adult dementia day center in the United States to be recognized by the MIL program.

The open house will be held at 21885 Dunham Road, Entrance Door B in Clinton Township. An RSVP is requested by Monday, May 29. Call (586) 469-5580 or click here to sign up online. Food and live entertainment will be provided.
