Lansing, MI - To support children and families experiencing the impact of parent/caregiver substance use, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Grants and Community Services Division has created the Michigan Alliance for Drug Endangered Children.
Launched in 2019, with funding from the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, this project works to raise awareness about the effects of substance use on families and children, to improve data collection and sharing, and to promote multidisciplinary collaboration among service providers from various professions.
Each year, the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children (DEC) recognizes the fourth Wednesday of April as a day to highlight the difficulties facing children who are affected by parental or caregiver substance use. National DEC Awareness Day, April 27, 2022, is a time to focus on children who are often left behind and an opportunity for communities to collaborate on innovative programs to identify, protect and support these children.
In recognition of National DEC Awareness Day, the Michigan DEC Alliance has created a short informational video and is conducting a training series throughout April and May.
