Meijer And Macomb County Partner To Administer Senior Vaccines

Mt. Clemens, MI - The Macomb County Health Department is partnering with Meijer to begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals aged 65 and older.

Those who wish to receive a vaccine at one of two unnamed locations in Macomb County must pre-register through the retailer’s text-based registration process.

“Our concern is for the most vulnerable populations based on national and state data, so senior citizens are a top priority,” said County Executive Mark Hackel. “We are allocating some of our vaccine allotment, in partnership with Meijer, to give better access to seniors that want to be vaccinated.”

Meijer was previously chosen by the State of Michigan as an initial pharmacy partner to help administer COVID-19 vaccines.

“I’m extremely proud of the amazing work our store and pharmacy teams have done to create a quick and efficient process for our vaccine clinics,” said Jason Beauch, Meijer Vice President of Pharmacy. “The importance of these clinics is not lost on our team members and patients – it’s a very emotional experience for everyone involved.”

The vaccine clinics conducted by Meijer are not open to walk-ups. Participants must be registered through the retailer’s online system in order to be scheduled for a vaccine. To register, patients can text COVID to 75049, go online at clinic.meijer.com or simply visit their local pharmacy and ask to register.

Once registered, individuals will be notified when a vaccine dose is available for them and offered an appointment. They can accept the appointment, decline the appointment and request another, or if they have already received their vaccine, they can ask to be removed from the list. The retailer is not releasing the location of the clinics but is expected to begin reaching out to registered individuals as early as next week with an appointment time and location.
