Pontiac, MI - Oakland County will distribute more free KN95 masks directly to Oakland County residents at drive-through locations in Novi and Southfield this week because of popular demand. The county gave away 84,000 masks last week at two drive-through events.
One drive-through mask distribution site will be from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the Oakland County Health Division's South Oakland Health Center, 27725 Greenfield Rd. in Southfield. The other drive-through mask distribution site will be at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave. in Novi on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 3-6 p.m.
Residents who are unable to make it to the Novi or Southfield locations may contact a number of Oakland County organizations or municipalities who are also distributing free KN-95 masks. Meanwhile, in response to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updated mask guidance, which allows for flexibility on the local level, the Oakland County Health Division is clarifying the key questions it received from residents this week:
- The mask requirement in Oakland County schools and daycares lifts Feb. 28 as scheduled. The Health Division allowed the extra time for lifting the mask order so schools would be able to develop the policies and procedures they need in place to help prevent transmission of COVID-19 before the mask requirement ends.
- Oakland County Health Division still strongly recommends universal masking for indoor public spaces and among large crowds to help prevent the spread of the virus.
- Wearing a mask is most effective at preventing transmission when combined with COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters, social distancing, washing hands, and staying home when symptomatic.
