MSUE Offers Adulting 101 Program In Macomb County

Clinton Twp., MI - Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) will again offer Adulting 101 in 2023. These engaging educational programs are designed for high school students and young adults to help demystify the obscure reality of being an “adult.”

Each class teaches important life skills and tools necessary to live independently, with different topics planned for each month taught by experienced MSU Extension Educators and 4-H volunteers.

MSUE is excited to offer a new class, Medical Insurance 101, on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. taught by Melissa Richardson, 4-H volunteer with over 20 years experience in employee benefits. "Medical insurance is confusing - no matter your age," she said. "Getting a base understanding of it as a young adult can only help someone navigate the health care system. Join me to understand medical insurance basics!"

Additional upcoming classes include Paycheck and Taxes on March 16 and Build and Protect Your Credit on April 12. All classes are free and will be held virtually lasting approximately an hour. Individuals will need to register at the MSU Extension Adulting 101 website,  https://www.canr.msu.edu/adulting101/index

A large majority (92 percent) of past participants agreed or strongly agreed with the statement: “The Adulting 101 resources provided by MSU Extension are helpful.’’ One participant commented: “When I live on my own, I feel like I can apply some of the things I learned with ease now that I have a better understanding.”
