Mt. Clemens, MI - After an active year in 2019, the Macomb County Department of Roads (MCDR) is prepared for annual construction and summer maintenance operations and has released the 2020 project schedule.
“We have a busy schedule planned with more than $74 million in substantial road improvements that will strengthen and enhance Macomb County’s infrastructure and transportation network,” said MCDR Director Bryan Santo. “We are committed to improving Macomb County's infrastructure by effectively delivering quality road and bridge projects.”
There are more than 4,400 miles of roads within Macomb County and MCDR is responsible for maintaining 1,773 miles of roadway in addition to more than 1,100 miles of subdivision streets. In 2019, MCDR completed the following work:
- Reconstructed eight lane miles of primary and local roads
- Resurfaced and rehabilitated 74 lane miles of primary and local roads
- Replaced 33,000-square-yards of concrete pavement
- Replaced one bridge
- Completed one bridge deck replacement
- Replaced critical road drainage infrastructure
- Installed nearly 50 miles of sinusoidal rumble strips, known as mumble strips, on two-lane roads to reduce head-on crashes and limit noise pollution
The 2020 construction schedule includes 21 primary and local road projects and four bridges, in addition to 28 asphalt resurfacing and concrete pavement repair projects as part of MCDR’s county-wide pavement preservation program. The work schedule also includes 10 township residential streets as part of MCDR’s subdivision reconstruction program, various maintenance projects, and traffic technology and communication network modernizations.
Below is a list of specific locations where primary and local road and bridge projects will occur in 2020. Estimated dates are tentative and subject to change due to inclement weather. The estimated construction cost for each project includes preliminary engineering to generate design drawings and bid documents, construction engineering and project oversight to maintain a high level of quality control, actual construction costs of materials, labor, and equipment required to build or repair infrastructure.
