Detroit, MI - Effective immediately, due to masonry falling from a deteriorating building nearby, the City of Detroit Department of Public Works (DPW) is closing Westbound E. Warren Ave. at St. Aubin St. and Northbound Dequindre St. at E. Forest Ave.
All traffic will be rerouted to go South taking Canfield St. to Russell St. Detour signs will be clearly posted to help ensure smooth traffic flow.
The city's Buildings, Safety Engineering, & Environmental Department (BSEED) has issued more than $4,500 in tickets to the owner of the building and will continue to issue tickets daily until the owner addresses the hazard. BSEED is also working with the law department on potential legal action.
DPW apologizes for any inconvenience this road closure may cause and is working quickly to resolve the issue. Residents are asked to exercise patience at this time. The department will provide additional updates as they become available.
