Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! Awarded Grant For Industry 4.0 Careers

Clinton Twp., MI - Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works! (M/SC MW!), in partnership with the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN), has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to support Industry 4.0 (I4.0) development in the local community.

I4.0 is the ongoing automation of traditional manufacturing and industrial practices, using modern smart technology. Large-scale machine-to-machine communication (M2M) and the internet of things (IoT) that are integrated for increased automation, improved communication and self-monitoring, and production of smart machines that can analyze and diagnose issues without the need for human intervention.

The Industry Infinity grant provides training funds focused on middle and high skill occupations that are being created by I4.0 in advanced manufacturing, information technology and transportation industries. These industries are being transformed by technology advancements and automation. Training funds are available for specific occupations in these industries.

For participants to qualify they need to be unemployed or underemployed. Underemployed workers are individuals who are not currently connected to a full-time job commensurate with their level of education, skills or wage/salary earned previously, or who have obtained only episodic, short-term or part-time employment. In order to qualify, participants must be a citizen of the United States or an eligible non-citizen, 17-years-of-age or older, not currently enrolled in a school with a local educational agency.

M/SC MW!'s goal is to train 140 participants by the end of the grant. Grants would include coverage of up to $5,300 per participant for training cost with opportunities to qualify for other financial assistance and services.
