AARP Michigan Announces Free Events For October 2023

Lansing, MI - Every month, AARP offers quality programs and events that are free and open to the public, both online and in person. Check out what's happening in October and be sure to register using the provided link.

  • Learn a Latte: Surviving a Silver Divorce (virtual event)
    Divorce at any age is difficult, but especially later in life. Find out how to overcome the struggles of a silver divorce and begin to write the next chapter of your life.

  • The Internet of Things (virtual event)
    Tune in for an overview of the Internet of Things and discusses best practices for keeping your devices secure. Learn how consumer devices communicate with each other and which of your devices are part of the Internet of Things. You’ll also find out about the technology that is fueling smart homes and smart cities.

  • Ethel’s Place (Lansing in-person event)
    At Ethel’s Place, persons living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment come together with friends and family for a celebration of connection, fun, music and light refreshments.  

  • Mobile Health Apps (virtual event)
    Learn about common smartphone health apps, like the iPhone's built-in app and the Google Fit app. You'll also discover how to use the app's step counter, as well as integrating information from other popular health and fitness apps.

  • AARP Disrupt Aging Book Club (virtual event)
    Join the Disrupt Aging Book Club in 2023 as we discuss the lighter side of life and topics related to aging. Come for the great conversation and book selections and leave with new friends and experiences. The October book is Every Last Cuckoo by Kate Malloy.

  • Detroit Reach Out and Play Game Night (in-person event)
    Create meaningful social connections through the power of play with the newly reimagined Joy for All™ games: The Game of Life Generations, Scrabble Bingo, and Trivial Pursuit Generations. While you play, learn more about AARP’s community of 50,000-plus volunteers and how you can donate your time and talent — in person or from home — to improve the lives of older Americans and their families. 

  • MI Sisters and Friends (Detroit in-person event)
    With the presidential election around the corner, we are sure you’ve got something to say! Join AARP for an inspiring event designed to elevate ballot box issues vital to women.

  • Grand Rapids Reach Out and Play Game Day (in-person event)
    Create meaningful social connections through the power of play with the newly reimagined Joy for All™ games: The Game of Life Generations, Scrabble Bingo, and Trivial Pursuit Generations. Come dressed up in your favorite Halloween costume and win prizes! Discover the great things AARP volunteers are doing in West Michigan and how you can get involved, too.
