Program For Seniors Needing Minor Home Repairs In Macomb County

Clinton Twp., MI - The Macomb County Office of Senior Services has launched a new program to help local seniors with minor home repairs.

The ‘Handy Helpers’ service, which is funded through grants from the Area Agency on Aging 1B, is intended for individuals aged 60 and older who live in Macomb County in their own home.

“Our mission is to provide supports and services in the home that support autonomy,” said Sheila Coté, director of the Macomb County Office of Senior Services. “The Handy Helpers program can complete tasks that are a challenge for the individual, because maintenance of a home can become a deterrent to living independently.”

Some examples of Handy Helpers services include:

  • Replacing door locks
  • Faucet repair
  • Weather stripping
  • Removal of fire hazards
  • Pest control
  • Cleaning of carpets, walls and windows
**Note: There are some limitations pending the type of repair that is required.

Macomb County has hired a team of individuals with construction experience to perform Handy Helpers tasks. The service providers have been thoroughly vetted with background checks and will follow CDC guidance when entering homes by wearing masks and appropriate PPE.

If you or someone you know may be interested in the program, please contact the Office of Senior Services at 586-469-5228. There is no deadline to apply and there are no income requirements. However, depending on demand, there may be a wait list.
