Detroit, MI - The City of Detroit Health Department is expanding its home vaccination efforts, now making it available to all Detroit residents age 12 or older, Chief Public Health Officer Denise Fair announced June 24,2021.
Earlier this month, teams first began vaccinating residents who were homebound and unable to get to a vaccination clinic. While those efforts will continue, the City’s expanded program now allows anyone to receive a vaccine without leaving the home.
“We want to make sure everyone who wants a vaccine can get one and this latest effort is taking it one step further,” said Chief Public Health Officer Denise Fair. “This is an even more personalized and public health approach. We are making house calls to anyone who wants to get vaccinated.” Fair says it is a big undertaking but it's key to continuing the City’s ongoing efforts to remove any barriers and get more Detroiters vaccinated.
Anyone interested in receiving a vaccine at home can call 313-230-0505 to schedule an appointment. Teams also will go door-to-door throughout the city letting residents know this opportunity is available. Those interested can make an appointment or get vaccinated at that time.
The Detroit Health Department along with its partners – Detroit Area Agency on Aging, Wayne Health, Maternal Infant Health Program Providers and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services – will have more than 150 teams available to provide the vaccinations.
To help residents and their families feel comfortable letting vaccinators into their home, members of the vaccination teams will be in a clearly identifiable uniform and have identification when they arrive.
