Shop Local Macomb Campaign Returns To Help Small Businesses

Mt. Clemens, MI - The fourth annual Shop Local Macomb campaign has returned just in time for the holidays, and as always, the initiative is asking shoppers to give business to independently owned and operated establishments. But this year, that support is especially important.

“Our local businesses are part of what makes Macomb a great place to call home,” said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. “But we know that there are many establishments that are struggling and facing incredible hardships right now. So this season, I’m asking our community to spend some of their holiday budget at our locally owned and operated retailers and restaurants. Everyone benefits when we shop local.”

In return, participants in the Shop Local Macomb campaign will be entered into a drawing to win one of 20 $150 gift cards donated by First State Bank. A $1,000 grant for a randomly selected local small business will also be awarded.

“The county has been working diligently to ensure our businesses receive the assistance and funding they need during these turbulent times,” said Vicky Rowinski, director of Macomb County Planning and Economic Development. “Our Shop Local Macomb campaign is an additional way for us to provide support with a fun twist for local consumers. Shop small and win big!”To enter, participants can:

  • Snap a picture shopping (either in-person, curbside or online) with a local retailer, grabbing takeout from a favorite restaurant or leaving a positive Facebook or Google review on a business’ page now through December 6
  • Submit the entry on MakeMacombYourHome.com
  • Share the images on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #ShopLocalMacomb

Businesses highlighted by consumers through photos or reviews will be automatically entered to win the $1,000 grant. Winning shoppers and businesses will be randomly selected during a Facebook live drawing on Monday, December 7 at Noon.

Shop Local Macomb is coordinated by the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development with support from area chambers, including the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce, the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce, the Romeo-Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce and the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce. First State Bank provides the gift cards.
