Convictions Announced In Detroit Card Game Shooting

Detroit, MI - On Friday, October 6, 2023, a jury in the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County found Lashawn Wells, 46, of Detroit, guilty of 2nd degree Murder, a potential life-sentence offense, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. The jury also entered a guilty verdict against Wells on one count of Felony Firearm.

Following an altercation during a card game, Wells fatally shot Marquell Scholar, 41, formerly of Sterling Heights, nine times.

“That a game of cards should result in murder is a tragedy, and I am grateful to see the jury bring accountability to this senseless crime,” said Nessel.

This case was investigated by the Special Investigation Division of Michigan State Police and prosecuted by the Department of Attorney General.

Wells will return to the 3rd Circuit Court in Wayne County for sentencing before Judge Charise Anderson on October 25th.
