Traffic Redirected For 2 Road Intersections With Telegraph

Metro Detroit Traffic NewsDetroit, MI - The rebuilding of the US-24 (Telegraph Road) intersections at M-5 (Grand River Avenue) and 7 Mile Road continues.

Beginning 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, through late November, drivers on M-5 (Grand River Avenue) and 7 Mile Road crossing US-24 will be rerouted around ongoing intersection construction. Drivers will be detoured onto US-24 and then to M-5 (Grand River Avenue) or 7 Mile Road, using the turnarounds north and south of M-5 (Grand River Avenue) and 7 Mile Road. See: map of area.

Eastbound M-5 (Grand River Avenue) and 7 Mile Road traffic will be detoured to southbound US-24 (Telegraph Road) to the first open turnaround, then northbound on US-24 (Telegraph Road) to either M-5 (Grand River Avenue) or 7 Mile Road.

Westbound M-5 (Grand River Avenue) and 7 Mile Road traffic will be detoured to northbound US-24 (Telegraph Road) to the first turn turnaround to southbound US-24 (Telegraph Road), and then to either M-5 (Grand River Avenue) or 7 Mile Road.

Traffic is currently be switched on northbound and southbound US-24 (Telegraph Road) between M-5 (Grand River Avenue) and M-102 (8 Mile Road) from the two left lanes onto the newly rebuilt two right lanes. Work will continue through the winter months and is expected to be completed by late 2024.

The US-24 (Telegraph Road)/M-102 (8 Mile Road) interchange will be rebuilt as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) in 2024.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing $54 million to rebuild 1.4 miles of US-24 (Telegraph Road) between M-5 (Grand River Avenue) to north of M-102 (8 Mile Road). This two-year project includes rebuilding US-24, improving five bridges, drainage and water main relocation work, sidewalk ramp improvements that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), sign replacements, and traffic signal and lighting relocations from the M-5 (Grand River Avenue) intersection to the M-102 (8 Mile Road) area, where a diverging diamond interchange will be built to improve efficiency and enhance safety.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 653 jobs.
